Hello my lovelies! Today, I am here with a card for the current Inky Paws Challenge. In Lieu of the upcoming holiday the challenge is to use a heart shape. Well, I used a few hearts on my card! From heart washi tape to the stamped animal print heart from the Wild about Zoo set. Finishing it off with heart punched vellum at the bottom of my card.
I have been getting a lot of buzz on my current backgrounds. If you didn't see my January Release for NND check here and here. I can't get enough of using Heavy Gel Medium with stencils. I figured I would do a small photo tutorial.
Lot's of Photos below!!!
First, you will need the following items:
- Any brand Heavy Gel Medium (you could probably use any type of gel medium)
- Your favorite stencil of choice
- Palette Knife/credit card/finger lol
- Heat Gun (not necessary, just speeds things up)
- Your favorite Ink ( I chose distress ink)
- Ink Blending Tool w/foam applicator
First, tape down your stencil to ensure a clean impression.
Next, apply your Gel Medium with your tool of choice. Be sure to get it in all the nooks and crannies.
Gently, remove stencil (be sure to clean the stencil right away or let it sit in a container of water for easy clean up) and let it air dry or speed things up with a heat gun. This process takes the longest even with the heat gun. Gel Medium is not like embossing paste and needs a lot more time to set up. The gel medium will dry clear to reveal the patterned paper beneath it.
Quick Tip: Keep the heat gun moving at all times and don't get too close to the gell with it. The gel will have bubbles or crackle. If you like that look then go for it!!! It does add another level of texture to the card.
Once dry, grab your ink and blending tool and blend away!!!!! The Gel Medium will resist the ink, just wipe over with a clean cloth/towel/etc...
Tah Dah! Your done!!!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I can't wait to see what you create for the Inky Paws Challenge!
Thanks for stopping by!
